Today our young guest writer Alex de Leeuw shares with us the fun he had sailing this weekend. A few months ago Alex helped us fixed the boat and we finally got to test it out on the water. Since Alex is Dutch I have translated his story into English for him.

“Zijn wij er bijna?”
Vandaag was ik heel vrolijk, want we reden naar de haven…

“Are we there yet?”
Today I was very excited because we drove to the harbour…
… zodat wij konden gaan varen met de boot.

… so that we could go sailing with the boat. Yay!
Wij gingen het water op en ik was de eerste matroos.
-
We went out on the water and I was the first mate.
“Dat is heel veel water. Zou er ook vis in zitten?”
-
“That is a lot of water. I wonder if there are any fish.”
“Dag vissen. Zijn jullie daar? Nee?”
Ik heb geen vissen gezien, maar ik weet zeker dat ze er waren.

“Hello fishes. Are you there? No?”
I did not see any fishes but I’m sure they were there.
Daarna ben ik in de mast geklommen, zodat ik het hele meer kon zien…

Next I climbed the mast so I could see the whole lake…
… en toen heb ik gekeken of ik ook piraten boten kon vinden. Ik denk dat ze zich verstopt hebben.

… and check for pirate ships but I didn’t see any. They must have been hiding too.
Toen gebeurde er iets heel engs. Ik viel bijna in het water.
“Aahh! Laat me niet in het water vallen! Misschien zitten er wel haaien!”

Then something really scary happened. I almost fell in the water.
“Aahh! Don’t let me fall in the water! There might be sharks!”
De rest van de reis moest ik dus een reddingsvest aan.

So I had to wear a life jacket for the rest of the trip…
… maar ik mocht wel aan het roer.

…but I got to steer the boat.
Aan het einde van de dag wees ik de weg naar de haven.
“Deze kant op.”

At the end of the day I guided us back to the harbour.
“It’s this way.”
… en hielp ik met het opruimen van de boot.
“Ik denk dat ik hulp kan gebruiken.”

…and helped tidy up the boat before going home.
“I might need some help.”

Vandaag hebben we in de douche geklust. Gisterenavond heb ik voor het laatst onder de oude douche gestaan.

Today we rebuilt the shower. Last night I took my last shower with the old shower.
Toen zijn we naar de klusmarkt gegaan.

Then we went to hardware store to buy new parts.
We moesten een hele hoop doen.

We had to do a lot.
We moesten de pijpleidingen verleggen…
-
We had to fix the pipes…
…en hout op maat zagen…
-
…and cut wood…
…en nieuwe tegels plaatsen…
-
…and place new tiles…
…en nieuwe tegels snijden…
-
…and cut new tiles…
…en nog meer nieuwe tegels plaatsen.

…and place more new tiles.
Toen ik klaar was, kon ik wel een nieuwe douche gebruiken…

When we were finished I needed another shower…
..en een kopje thee.

…and a cup of tea.
Today our young guest writer Alex de Leeuw is back to tell us all about the fun time he had with his cousin and one of his friends as they helped my girlfriend, her brother and myself get our boat ready to be put in the water. As always I have translated for Alex since he is only a young Dutch lion and is still learning English.

Mijn neef Jack het Luipaard en mijn vriend Mr Koala kwamen op bezoek vandaag. We hebben Stuart en zijn vriendin geholpen met het klussen aan hun boot.

My cousin Jack the Leopard and my friend Mr Koala came to visit today. We helped Stuart and his girlfriend work on their boat.
Eerst moesten we er voor zorgen dat we het juiste gereedschap hadden. Het is heel belangrijk het goede gereedschap te gebruiken bij het klussen aan een boot.

First we had to make sure we had the right tools. It is very important to have the right tools when working on a boat.
Mijn neef Jack gebruikt hier een groot schuurapparaat om de boot te schuren…

My Cousin Jack used a big sanding tool to sand the boat…
…en ik gebruik een klein schuurapparaatje (maar dat vind ik niet erg)…

… and I used a smaller sanding tool (but I did not mind)…
…en Mr Koala gebruikt een borstel om schoon te maken.
-
… and Mr Koala used a brush to clean.
Toen namen we een thee pauze, want het was wel veel en hard werken.
-
Then we took a tea break because it was a lot of hard work.
Toen deed ik nog wat meer schuurwerk, zodat mijn neef Jack kon gaan schilderen.

Then I did some more sanding so my cousin Jack could paint.
En toen we klaar waren, hebben we op de boot gespeeld. Ik heb gewonnen met verstoppertje spelen.

And when we were finished we played on the boat. I won hide and seek.
Ik ben de koning van de wereld!

I’m the king of the world!

…or rather it is more accurate to say he found us. Alex appeared on our doorstep this last week with a note asking if he could stay with us. As you can see from the photo he has grown a little during his time away (and has found some cool new sunglasses). Thank you to all our friends and readers for aiding us in the search for Alex. We are very happy to have him back in our lives so he can continue to appear as a guest writer on this blog.

Today our famous guessed writer Alex de Leeuw returns to tell us all about his Christmas adventures in the land of red buses and phone boxes which is otherwise known as my home city of London. Since Alex only a young lion and can only speak Dutch I have translated everything into English for him.

Met Kerst namen Stuart en zijn vriendin mij mee naar Londen. Het was mijn eerste keer.
For Christmas Stuart and his girlfriend took me to London. It was my first time there.
Wij reisden door Londen met de metro. Het is erg ingewikkeld.
We traveled on the London underground. It is very complex.
Ik dronk een milkshake bij McDonalds. Het was net als een Nederlandse McDonalds, alleen was alles in het Engels.
I had a milkshake in McDonalds. It was like a Dutch McDonalds, only everything was in English.
Ik zag Trafalgar Square…
I saw Trafalgar Square…
…en een hele grote kerstboom…
… and a really big Christmas tree…
…en hele grote sneeuwmannen…
… and some really really big snowmen…
Met Kerst hadden we een echt Engels diner. Een kalkoen en Christmas Crackers
On Christmas day we had an English Christmas Turkey dinner with Christmas crackers.
Ik heb gehoord dat Engelse mensen hun cadeautjes boven in de boom stoppen dus ik klom naar boven om ze te zoeken.
I heard that English people put presents on top of the tree so I climbed up to look for them.
Oeps. Nee dat doen ze niet. Ze leggen ze onder de boom. Hier zijn ze. Zijn ze allemaal voor mij?
Oops. No they don’t. They put them under the tree. Here they are. Are they all for me?
